About Two Furs Rescue
Two Furs Rescue was started in 2023 by a few experienced kitten fosterers in Lake County IL. They saw the never-ending need to save the youngest and most vulnerable kittens and felt there was more that could be done. They also believed they could help reduce the cat overpopulation in the area by offering a Trap-Neuter-Return program for Community cats.
We are a foster-based, all volunteer Rescue. We do not have a physical shelter and our volunteers do not receive any monetary compensation for their time and efforts. They do receive all the love and cuddles kittens provide!
What does "Two Furs" Mean?
We believe kittens under the age of six months should be adopted in pairs. Kittens learn from their siblings and a single kitten can get itself into a lot of trouble with no one to keep it in check. The “kitten lady”, Hannah Shaw has a great video that explains the benefits of adopting kittens in pairs:
Therefore, we offer a “two-for deal” on two kittens….two-for/two-fur….funny, right? But seriously, we cannot tell you how many times while fostering for other Rescues we tried to convince adopters to take two. I wish we had kept a count of the number who came back within a year and said, “I should have listened and taken two”.

Our Mission
Our mission is to assist the youngest and most vulnerable kittens born to feral or community cat mothers and address the issue of unwanted cat reproduction through a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. This strategic approach aims to reduce the overall population of homeless cats and kittens in Lake County. Our all-volunteer, foster-based rescue will work to educate the community as well as raise funds to cover our expenses incurred while the cats and kittens are in our care.
Our Vision
We believe in “quality over quantity” and will only take in as many kittens as we have space and resources. We rely on adoption fees and donations to provide food and medical care for our kittens. We hope the community will help us in our efforts as we help them to reduce the homeless cat and kitten population.
The ultimate goal is to prevent the unwanted pregnancies in the first place. If we can educate the community on the importance of spay/neuter for all pets and offer TNR services to current community cat caretakers, we hope to stop the cycle. Like the old Pitbulls and Paroles TV show intro said, “My Mission is to Rescue, my hope is one day I won’t have to”.
Our Guidelines
We want to help as many animals as possible, without overwhelming our fosters or funds. Therefore, we CAN:
- Foster newborn kittens up to 8 weeks old (subject to space availability)
- Help caretakers spay/neuter their community cats
- Raise awareness about feral/community cats and the need to spay and neuter
What we cannot do:
- Take in kittens older than 8 weeks
- Take in adult cats
- Spay/neuter feral cats without a caretaker
