A Short Story: Poo in the Grout

The Scoop on Poop

My kitten was a shitten,
And I wasn’t sure quite why.

It smelled so bad,
It made me want to cry.

It was in the box,
And a bit was on the wall,
There was poop on the door,
And a dried spot on the floor.

It was even in the grout–
Hard to clean, no doubt.

So I went to grab my mop
And walked back up the stairs.
I got up all the litter,
And a lot of black cat hairs.

It would not come out,
This piece stuck in the grout.

I scrubbed and scrubbed with all my might,
But the stubborn stain put up a fight.

I tried some soap, I tried some spray,
But the mess in the grout just wouldn’t go away.

On my hands and knees, with a scouring pad,
I cursed that kitten—how could it be so bad?

At last, I won; the grout gleamed white.
But I swore to myself, “Not another night!”

You’re going to the vet–
You probably need some meds,
Because whatever’s in your belly
Is messing with our heads.

The vet gave a shrug,
And a knowing little grin:
“That kitten’s got some issues—
It’s all chaos within.”

A fecal panel was ordered,
Some meds and special food,
To tame its upset tummy
And improve its stinky mood.

Now the box stays cleaner,
The air smells fresh and nice,
And my floors no longer suffer
From poop stains more than twice.
